Discovering a career path that aligns with your passions and aspirations can be an exhilarating journey, as Shi-Ning, a participant in nVent’s human resources leadership development program (LDP) based in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, knows firsthand. Her motivation to continue to learn and grow new skills has been elevated since joining our team.
Reflecting on her entry into the program, Shi-Ning shared, “I found nVent at my college career fair, and coincidentally, it was the first booth I went to! I was super interested in a rotational program and was excited to see that nVent had exactly what I was looking for.”
The appeal of nVent’s rotational program was further enhanced by the opportunity to relocate to California, her ‘dream state’. Shi-Ning is currently navigating through the LDP’s three rotations. She started as a human resources specialist in a manufacturing plant and now works on the Talent Acquisition team in our Enterprise (corporate) office.
Shi-Ning appreciates the collaborative nature of her work and is thrilled that she can connect with so many different people. “A day in my life consists of launch calls with hiring managers, sourcing for candidates on LinkedIn, screening resumes in Workday, conducting phone interviews, scheduling interviews, debriefing with managers and interviewers, and extending offers,” she explained.
Helping people is at the core of why she elected to become an HR professional. One of the most rewarding moments of Shi-Ning’s career thus far was extending her first job offer. “The feeling was indescribable,” she exclaimed. “It confirmed this passion within me as nVent helped me realize Talent Acquisition is where I want to be long-term.”
Shi-Ning attributes much of her positive experience at nVent to the inclusive culture and the diversity of its hardworking people. She is encouraged by the open and learning-centric environment it offered, emphasizing that everyone is welcome here. “What I love most about working at nVent is the people,” she explained. “The warmth here creates such a trusting and encouraging space that is so important in any workplace.”
She discussed the importance of maintaining a positive attitude, which is the foundation of one of our Win Right values. “The Positive Energy value resonates the most with me,” Shi-Ning shared. “When you demonstrate positive energy, others around you can feel that and it truly creates an energizing environment.”
Shi-Ning also highlighted the enriching experience of participating in employee resource groups (ERGs) like Charting Courses, which fosters connections and learning across a diverse set of backgrounds. “I have thoroughly enjoyed participating in the Charting Courses ERG,” she commented. “It’s so exciting to connect with and learn from people from all over, and it has been wonderful to have a space dedicated to learning.”
For those new to their career or changing to a new role, Shi-Ning offers some encouraging advice: “Always ask questions.” She notes that in most cases, people want to support their teammates. Her belief that “knowledge is power” has contributed to her professional growth. She has increased her confidence and has been empowered to help others.
